Adoloscent breast problems – breast development problems

Adolescence puts a girl on a new threshold of life and changes her forever. Never again she will feel like before. Her body and mind changes permanently. Adolescence or teenage can be tumultuous also as a girl has to cope with all the changes that she herself may not fully comprehend. Parents have to shoulder the responsibility of making girls understand the changes that adolescence brings and also to be aware of any abnormality.
The most common problem that teenage girls face is with their breasts. Mothers should explain to the young girls as soon as they have their first menses about the breast development stages in girls. Let us discuss some common breast problems faced by teenage girls.

Breast asymmetry: Uneven Breast Size and Breast Development

The most common problem that teenagers face is asymmetric breasts. The problem aggravates as girls may not be able to tell it to their mothers. But asymmetric breasts can wreak havoc on a teenager’s psychology.

Adolescent Breast development problems

The asymmetric breast problem is quite common in the development phase of the breast. Most of these asymmetries disappear once the breasts are fully developed. But in case the unevenness of breasts is prominent and it makes a girl feel miserable then it must be treated.
Treating breast anomalies in teenagers is quite easy. A tissue expander is placed in the underdeveloped breast. It is kept throughout the development of the breasts and occasionally expanded to achieve symmetry between the breasts.
Once the other breast also completes development the tissue expander is removed and a permanent saline implant is placed.
Often breast reconstruction is also done to correct more pronounced unevenness of breasts.

Poland’s syndrome

The Poland’s syndrome syndrome is often observed in teenage girls who are characterized by congenital absence of pectoral major muscles. There is no breast development. There may not be any nipple areolar complex in severe cases.
This problem can be resolved by placing tissue expander in the absent breast and subsequent use of breast implants and even transferring muscles from backside.

Nipple discharge causes

Often young girls complain of nipple discharge. This condition is known as Jogger’s nipple and is mainly caused by nipple irritation during exercising. The cause behind such nipple discharge seems to be the constant rubbing of garments.

Fibroadenomas in breast

These are small marble like lumps that are hard and are found in the breasts. They are mostly found in young women and are usually painless.

All these problems may make a teenage girl feel embarrassed and shy away from social gatherings. Since chances of breast cancer are negligible during adolescence so there is actually not much risk associated with these problems. A mere breast examination is enough to know the cause. But an adolescent girl needs to be reassured that these changes are part of life and there is no health risk involved.

Life presents so many opportunities during adolescence and being pre-occupied with breast problems is the least expected.
