Acne, commonly known as pimples, is the most common skin problem among teenagers. Recent survey shows around 85-90% teenagers suffer from the problem of acne (teenage acne). Often grown up people also suffer from this problem. The chief reason of acne is the presence of excess oil in the skin.
Acne causes or factors responsible for acne :-
- During puberty the human body starts to secrete a hormone named as androgen. In the process of growth this “male” hormone is produced in both the male and female body but in comparison to female it is produced in excess amount in the male body. The chief function of this hormone is to control the oil production in the skin and since puberty is the peak time of its secretion teenagers suffer a lot with this hormone. Acne is a result of this hormone.
- At the juncture of adolescent and youth the body hormone level fluctuates regularly and the production of sebum (the oily secretion of the sebaceous glands) increases at a very high level. This excess oil when mixed with dust and dead cells, they create acne on the skin.
- The tendency to eat oily food stuff and junk food is quite common among the teenagers, and such type of food habit is also responsible for producing acne.
- Researchers have pointed out ‘stresses’ as a possible reason of acne. It is found that people with less stress don’t suffer that much with acne.
- Our lack of attention about skin care is also a possible reason of acne.
Skin acne treatment :-
Acne causes much discomfort and our confidence level becomes very low. So, to remove acne quickly here is some easy available medicines-
- Benzoyl peroxide: – it destroys the bacteria that stimulate acne.
- Salicylic acid: – it is a beta hydroxy acid which helps to remove acne and prepares the skin to get back its own healthy condition.
- Retinoid: – It is also used for acne treatment like salicylic acid.
- If benzoyl peroxide is mixed with antibiotics like erythromycin, oxy tetracycline then this mixture will be effective to cure acne.
But as a side effect, these medicines on acne can sometimes cause burning sensation on the skin and irritation. Some time besides curing acne they leave some unwanted spot on the skin.
Natural acne treatment
The best way to take care of acne free skin or preventing acne is natural precautions.
- Keep your skin clean. Wash it at least two times a day. Wash your face after returning home from outside as dust and dirt tends to get adhere on our oily skin, clogs the pores and causes acne .
- Clean your face with a mild soap before going to bed to get acne free skin.
- Avoid strong detergent based toilet soap and use any mild soap because strong soap strips off the oil from the skin and stimulates the skin to produce more oil and cause acne.
- Wash your hair regularly. Sticky hair can cause dandruff and touching the face after playing with your hair can worsen the acne.
- Don’t use harmful hair gel, hair color, conditioner etc as these may trigger the cause of acne.
- Use cotton wool (cotton ball) to scrub your face, never scrub your face harshly.
- In most cases acne are irritating, but don’t touch them at all as this can spread the bacteria throughout your face and other parts of your body.
- Never pop-up the existing acne.
Most importantly try to stay stress free, keep smiling always and lead a happy life. Acne is not at all a serious problem to worry about; it seems on the face as a natural process of growth and disappears after a certain age of time.
